- Joe Hooks
General Manager and Secretary/Treasurer of the Corporation. Joe is one of the original owners of Liberty Medical Specialties. Joe has been involved in the delivery of healthcare services for over thirty years. His experience includes Purchasing Manager, Operations Manager, as well as Regional Operations Manager for a national medical company. Joe has also served as a liaison for large contracts, as well as Sales Manager for a national infusion provider.
Joe has served in several capacities with the North Carolina Association for Homecare Equipment Suppliers (NCAMES), including Medicaid and small business committees. Joe holds a BS from East Carolina University and an AA from Louisburg College.
- Mary Hooks, RPh
Director of Clinical Services and Vice President of the Corporation. Mary is one of the original owners of Liberty Medical Specialties and is a registered and certified Pharmacist. She served as a pharmacy manager after graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She later operated one of the first infusion pharmacies in NC. The same pharmacy was later acquired by a national provider, where Mary oversaw the pharmacy and delivery of home infusion over a three state area. Mary has been in the home medical and infusion business for over twenty-five years. She has experience in sales and marketing, as well as the clinical aspect of the business.
Mary is a member of ASHP (American Society of Hospital Pharmacist), NHIA (National Home Infusion Association) and the North Carolina Medical Equipment Suppliers (NCAMES). Mary Hooks holds a Pharmacy Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
- Kenneth Bray, RRT/RCP
Clinical Respiratory Services Manager. Ken has over 38 years experience as a Respiratory Therapist and Health Care Manager including four years in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and Cardiopulmonary Technician, ten years with SGH Healthcare Corp. as Director of Special Services and seven years as Corporate Director of Outreach Services, ten years with Columbia/HCA Highsmith Rainey Hospital as Director of Respiratory Care & Cardio-Pulmonary Diagnostic Services, and Medical Laboratory Services , and has been with Liberty Medical Specialties since 2002. He has had various responsibilities involving Adult, Pediatric, and Neonatal acute care, Department Management, diagnostics, new programs development, ethics & compliance, quality assurance/improvement, home care, Hospice and DME. He has also been involved in education as a Clinical Instructor for respiratory care along with experience with smoking cessation programs and rehab programs. Ken has been actively involved with many community programs and organizations including the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society.
- Christa Clewis, RN
Manager of Nursing Services. Christa has been nursing since 1979. She started her nursing career as a staff nurse on the pediatric unit at Columbus Regional Medical Center. She was later employed with BioMedical Home Care as an infusion nurse with a concentration in chemo, antibiotics, and TPN therapies in patient’s homes. She joined the Liberty family in 1993 as a field nurse, Clinical Team Manager and Home Care Liaison. She later transferred to Liberty Medical Specialties – again concentrating in Home Infusion, DME, and risk management and infection control. Christa is a member of the National Home Infusion Association and the Infusion Nursing Society.
- April Hatcher, PharmD
Branch Pharmacy Manager in Whiteville, NC. April received a Doctorate of Pharmacy from UNC Chapel Hill in 1998. She completed ASHP Pharmacy Practice Residency at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, NC, which included experience in acute care, ambulatory care, hospice care, geriatrics, oncology and pharmacy administration. April has been a part of the Liberty family since 1999. She is a member of the National Home Infusion Association.
- Richard Simpson RPh
Branch Pharmacy Manager in Wilmington, NC. Rick received a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from the Medical College of Virginia in 1984. He has over 24 years of pharmacy and healthcare experience. Rick has over 24 years in a pharmacy/hospital setting and eleven years as a Retail Pharmacy Manager, and over fifteen years as a Pharmacy/home infusion manager. Rick has been with the Liberty family since 1999. Rick is a member of National Home Infusion Association.
- Scott Hinson
Sales Manager. Scott has 28 years experience in health care services. He is a graduate of the University on North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During his career Scott has served as district sales manager for a national DME company, completed branch start-ups, and spent time as a regional sales trainer. He also has marketing experience for a national infusion therapy provider. In addition he has 13 years experience as branch manager and director of business development for a national franchise, private duty home care provider. He has been with Liberty Medical Specialties since 2007. Scott lives in Chapel Hill and is headquartered in our Durham location.
- Anna Johnson
Finance Manager. Anna brings over 25 years of accounting experience to the company. She has been with Liberty Medical Specialties since its inception in 1993. Anna obtained a BS degree in Government from Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina. Prior to working in the home medical equipment industry, she worked as a small business client accounting assistant with Ernst & Young and was the Office Manager for Sellers & Bauknight, PA, an accounting firm, both in Columbia, SC.
- David Chandler, MBA
Billing & Collections Manager. David has over seven years of HME experience and has been in the Liberty family since 2003. David earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from College of Charleston and after several years of management experience followed up with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. David has been involved in various leadership roles within Liberty including marketing, operations, organizational development, billing and collections. David has been an active member with the North Carolina Association for Medical Equipment Services (NCAMES) since 2004 and is currently serving as Federal Legislative Chair for the association.
